A Clinical Report of CNS Depression Following Intrathecal Injection of Morphine

Abstract
Intrathecal injection of morphine has been widely used for relief of postoperative pain and this method has provided an excellent analgesic effect.
However, many side effects such as pruritic, nausea, vomitting, muscle rigidity, urinary retention and respiratory depression are occurred after intrathecl injection of morphine.
Among these side effects, central nervous system depression may be a lifethreating event.
About 6 hours after administration of tetracaine with morphine intrathecally, signs of CNS depression were developed and were completely reversed with naloxone hydrochloride intravenously without any sequelae and interference of analgesic effect.
